Baptist Couriers for Christ

"To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death..."

WHO ARE THE BAPTIST COURIERS?

Distributing God's Word

We are a local church-based evangelistic ministry whose core focus is to assist church planting through Scripture distribution in Europe and beyond.

A courier, by definition, is a “messenger, usually traveling in haste, bearing urgent news”. We carry the most urgent news that this world needs to hear. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Baptist Couriers for Christ is a team of missionaries that travel the country visiting local churches urging them to partner with us by praying, giving, and going to the mission field. God has called us to place His Word into the hands of people in Europe and beyond. Our ministry would not be able to fulfill that mandate without the prayers and participation of strong local churches. Our ministry heartbeat is that the Word of God would be published and distributed to the uttermost.

HISTORY

Baptist Couriers For Christ was founded as a Bible smuggling ministry on November 6, 1979 by Donald Stertz. During a survey trip behind the Iron Curtain in 1978, he made a chilling discovery in a church of about 100 individuals—ONLY TWO PEOPLE HAD BIBLES! At that moment the Holy Spirit impressed upon his heart to spend the rest of his natural life getting Scriptures into the hands of those people and so many others like them. With no experience in Bible smuggling yet possessing a clear call from the Lord, it is fascinating to see the steps that Don took as God opened the doors to establish and develop this ministry in the 1980’s.

Container shipping

We use containers of all shapes and sizes in our daily lives. The containers that CFC utilizes to send Gospel literature and Scriptures around the world are 20 foot long and 8 foot tall steel shipping containers. These are transported inland across countries via semi trucks and around the world on large dedicated cargo ships. Each container is capable of holding vast amounts of literature. They are expensive to ship and also have customs costs before arriving in the hands of the missionaries and indigenous people. We need your help to ship as many of these containers annually as possible throughout the world.

Scripture Production

Although Couriers for Christ doesn’t operate its own printshop, there are times when we must resort to funding scripture production for a special needs project. In these cases, we pay to have Scriptures produced in the country of origin or in a neighboring country. It then is up to our ministry to pick up the costs not only of shipping but also of production. Every dollar given to our Bible fund, goes directly to the financial needs associated with Scripture production.

Translation

It is easy to take for granted the privilege of having the preserved Word of God in the English language in the KJV but what about the thousands of languages that have nothing? Accurate copies of the Word of God are very important to the CFC staff. We deal in a variety of languages in Europe and across the world. We are not Bible translators but throughout the decades, we have occasionally been made aware of a new translation project. These are accomplished by believers of like faith and practice who are undertaking the momentous job of translating the Word of God accurately into a language that often has never possessed it. As we have funds available and the Lord gives us the direction to do so, we will assist in funding these translation works.

Networking

Each one of us benefits from our connections as we live this life. Couriers for Christ is so thankful for the many ministries that we network with for the furtherance of the Gospel. We often reach out to local church based printing ministries to get Scriptures for foreign field projects. There are times when ministries call us for help in getting Scriptures shipped to remote locations. Missionaries also contact us asking if we could bring a team of willing workers to evangelize their region through the distribution of John & Romans booklets. Can we network with your ministry for Christ’s glory?

Campaigns

Another arm of the Couriers ministry is the CFC Scripture Distribution Campaign. Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people on the other side of the world? Do you enjoy meeting new people and experiencing the camaraderie of believers working together for a common goal? Are you willing to sacrifice a couple of weeks of your precious time to assist a church planting missionary in their work? Do you have the health and strength to be on your feet about 7 hours per day, taking about 15,000 steps while carrying a backpack loaded with John & Romans booklets? Do you have your passport? If you answered “YES” to most of these questions, you are a candidate for participating in one of our future campaigns. Please visit our Missions Trips page for more information.

Sponsorship of Servants

What if you aren’t able to join us on a Scripture distribution campaign because of age, health, or some other mitigating factor but you would love to have someone go in your place?  This is EXACTLY what the CFC Sponsorship of Servants has been created to fulfill.  Websters dictionary defines a sponsor as “A surety; one who binds himself to answer for another, and is responsible for his default.”  As we travel this country, we constantly meet young people who would love to participate in a CFC Campaign.  However, often they do not have the expendable capital at their disposal because of the cost of raising a family.  This is your chance to give so that others can go on your behalf.  Every dollar received will go into the Sponsorship of Servants fund and we will then offer partial or full sponsorships to viable and vetted applicants.
